Palika in Mayapur

December 13, 2006

The past month has included a lot of study and a little adventure. At the beginning of the month Jagattarini Mataji and Hayley visited Mayapur from Vrindavan. Although the visit was short, it was very sweet.

Trip 024

Hmmmmm...I'm not so sure about this!!!!

One morning we spontaneously decided to visit Godruma Dwip, the place of Srila Bhaktivinode Thakura. In order to do so we needed to cross over the Jalangi  River. However, when we arrived at the river we then learnt that there was a Government strike which meant no boats or buses or rickshaws! After a moment we saw one boatman passing by and waved him down but after seeing the condition and the size of the boat a couple of us became reluctant to board. Just then the boatman's "no problem" (a typical saying in India) wasn't very reassuring,  but the "group consensus" was to board, so we did. Since the slightest movement was likely to tip the boat we all kept very still which meant that taking photos was difficult...but not impossible!

Srila Bhaktivinode Thakura's room
For those who don't know, Srila Bhaktivinode Thakura was      instrumental in re-establishing lost principles of Krishna           consciousness in the 19th Century. Most of his day was            spent absorbed in spiritual activities like meditating, writing        and preaching. He also held a position as a high court judge and was very respected in the community.
