Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura's Appearance Day

The Big Brute !!!!

Look at this brute, sitting above everyone else, being offered flowers and garlands, and accepting so many exaggerated words of praise. How has he become so arrogant ?

Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur spoke, painting this picture of himself, during his last VyasaPuja celebration in 1936.

Although we do not share such feelings, being familiar with the exalted character of this great personality, still let’s hear from him how he thinks while accepting such honour and worship from others.

He tells us that Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu gave this order to everyone:

“Whoever you meet instruct him regarding Krishna. By my command, be Guru and save this land.”

Now on hearing such an order most of us would say:

“I am such a great sinner, how could I be a guru? You 're God Himself. You can be Guru”

Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati answers this doubt by reminding us that when we are busy telling others about Krishna there is no risk of ourselves forgetting Him. Hence, by sincerely following this order, one can in fact deliver others.

He speaks of himself.

“The word of Krishna has come down to me from my Gurudeva. I have to obey them in all sincerity..…by doing so I will dissipate with indominatable courage and conviction the currents of thought of all the people of the world, relying on the strength from the lotus feet of my Guru. By sprinkling simply a particle of pollen of the dust from his lotus feet, crores of people like you will be saved. There is no such learning in all this world”

Then he tells  how, "by hearing from devotees, the glories of the Lord can react in our hearts so that we may learn about our utter worthlessness."

“Krishna will be merciful to us and we shall be blessed with the gift of devotion to His Divine Feet the very day that we are delivered from the evil desire of seeking advantages and honour from others”

[Sobering words from one who is qualified to speak so strongly!]

While concluding his address he tells us...

“Those who worship God, but do not worship His devotees, are arrogant sinners. They are not worshipping God at all”

--------------

Today, as every time I read his sobering words, I become painfully aware of my own insincerity.

What to do?

Pray seriously to be able to follow his line of thought ! ! !
